May Week 2
St. Patricks Week
Day 3
Circle Time:
Shamrock Numbers
First, you will need to print out my “shamrock small number file” onto heavy paper such as card stock paper. Then cut the shamrocks out, you may want to just cut around them; like a circle and not actually cut them on the lines. You will need a marker. On each shamrock write a number such as 1, 2, 3, 4 , 5 through number 12. You will need twelve paper plates. On each paper plate write one number 1 – 12.
Have the children sit in a circle. Have the children help you place the paper plates on the floor and place them in order 1 – 12. Place the shamrocks with the numbers written on them into a cloth bag. Have the children take turns picking out a shamrock and then have them tell you what number is written on the shamrock. Have the child then take the shamrock and place it onto the correct paper plate by matching the number on the shamrock to the number written on the paper plate. Help the children as needed.
Art Time:
Textured Shamrock
Print out the large shamrock to use as a pattern cut out one shamrock from heavy paper, such as card stock paper, for each child. Have the older children cut out their own shamrock and teacher will cut out the shamrocks for the younger children.
Next, give each of the children some glue and have them cover the shamrock with glue. Then pass out some green rice to sprinkle across the glue or place the colored rice onto a paper plate and have the children dip the shamrock, glue side down, onto the rice and press firmly and then lift off and place onto newspaper to dry.
Please Note
How to color the rice.
Recipe One
You will need some green rice for tomorrow’s craft. You can color the rice by placing it in a small amount of water and add a few drops of green food coloring. Let it soak until it turns green. Then carefully drain and place the rice on paper towels to dry out.
Recipe Two
Place rice into a large bowl and put in a small amount of oil, just enough to coat the rice, then put in a few drops of green food coloring and stir until rice is green. Lay out on paper towels to dry.
Learning Time:
How many shamrocks
Teacher will need to print out one shamrock number work sheet per child. Print the file onto copy paper. Have the children count the shamrocks in each section. Have them circle the correct number in each section.
Special Activity:
Shamrock Tracing
Teacher will need to print out the small shamrock file and use it as a pattern to cut out a few shamrocks shapes from card board to make stencils for the children to use.
Then provide the children with the shamrock stencils you have made. Teacher will show the children how to trace the shamrocks. Teacher will help the children as needed. Provide the children with markers or crayons to color the shamrocks that they make.
