Latch Boards
We try to provide the children in our care with a lot of hands on activities. In the picture picture above you can view some of the latch boards that we offer the children to use. We have placed them onto the walls at different heights for the children to play with. Latch boards are ideal as the children can not loose the pieces that go with them, as all the pieces are attached to the latch boards.
We offer different types of toys that are attached to the walls for both the toddlers and the preschoolers. Some of the boards on the walls have farm animals and you need to slide them and the children will" match the babies animals to their mommies". The children match them up by sliding the pieces on the boards.
Manipulative's The children are playing with button type pegs that are pushed into holes in thick cloth shapes. They can connect the holes in two or three of these cloth shapes together with the buttons or just place a button into each hole in the thick cloth.
The button peg toy that the children are using above, is a Maninulative or "table toy" and they are a great daily activity for the children. We have a variety of table toys such as; puzzles, variety of peg boards, latch boards, fruit and vegetables that the children cut, that are held together with velcro, plus other table toys, not mentioned above.
Playing Store
In the picture above you can view the girls playing store. Dramatic play helps the children to learn to pretend and to learn how to cooperate with their freinds. Dramatic play is great for children it will help them learn how to pretend to be a cashier, a cook, a doctor, even an astronaut, or whatever their imagination comes up with, all you need to do is provide a few props for them to use, and then just sit back and watch the fun begin.
Tinker Toys The children in the picture above are playing with tinker toys. Most children love to build and create things, and tinker toys, blocks and other building toys help the children to create whatever they would like to build.
Waffle Blocks
In the picture above, he is putting together a road with waffle blocks. We also have other roads the children can build from foam puzzle pieces, plus we have train tracks that the children can build. We provide the children with small cars to use on their roads that they build and we also provide the children with small trains that they can push along the train tracks that they put together.
Gears & Nuts and Bolts In the picture above you can see the children using our gears, nuts and bolts. Emily is concentrating on putting all the gears onto a plastic base and Lizzy is very busy building with the nuts, bolts, screws and pieces of predrilled wood.
Dress Up Clothes
Kids love to dress up. Playing make believe is so much more fun with dress up clothes. We offer a lot of dress up clothes that both the boys and girls will find delight in using. We have a lion,a policeman,a race car,a doctor,a nurse and a lot of other costumes for the children to use, along with dress up shoes, hats and purses.
Doll House In the picture above you will see the children are playing with the doll house. The doll house gives the children a chance to act out their thoughts and ideas and have fun playing.
Calendar We start our morning program with circle time. During circle time we discuss with the children the weather outside, what day it is, and go over that day's theme. We start with the weather chart and then move onto the calendar. After the children place the date on the calendar, we sing the 7 days of the week song and then we start our morning circle time activity.
